Let's carry on desecrating the English language, why don't we now...
(And all of you zombies that dare think that
this is exactly what us bloggers do, each time we blog -
SILENCE, I SAY THEE...!)
When the Oxford English Dictionary
officially welcomes all those
''trendy new online words''
(''web words'' by any other name?)
it has got to be a sad day for
genuine language lovers
For words and expressions such as
derp
digital detox
emoji
FOMO
hackerspace
MOOC
phablet
selfie
squee
srsly
TL;DR
simply do not deserve the same status
as true-to-form, classic speech patterns.
Especially that last one there:
a mere abbreviation
(as we are in the age of abbreviated talk) ''TL; DR'' stands for ''too long; didn't read'' - the total opposite of what we are to encourage
and what a dictionary should stand for either!
There are 65 new additions such as those listed above
that were selected by Oxford for inclusion this time around;
the practice of adding on such ''new words''
is a recurrent one, as ''the Ox'' evidently sees it
as proof that the English language is
in constant evolution, ever-changing
and moving forward with the times...
It is rather the opposite that is occurring there -
and it is sad that Oxford gives it its blessing!
(Even sadder when one notes that this is but the latest batch!
And Merriam-Webster, for its part,
is adding 150 new ones all at once!!!
See video below - subject to availability
Huffington willing... Ha!)
For such ''new words'' don't belong in a dictionary -
they deserve only to be relegated to a
compendium of cyclic talk, buzz words
and other trends that will, hopefully,
go away into the nether ether it sprang from...
Isn't the Urban Dictionary
(an un-dictionary if there ever was one -
for it is a glossary more than anything else)
enough already for these crappy travesties
that do nothing else than bastardize the human language
HUH?
I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To tell it like it is - especially since, unlike many others, I do know the limits of good taste and do not trespass them (unless people really beg for it!) I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To divulge truths to those who have not the foggiest clue what the truth is, about whatever subject it may be - for they desperately need the enlightenment! And God Sent me, Willed me into existence, put me upon this earth... but to help, for a time. I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To reshape, repackage, rewrap my mold - for the world.
Not to justify my existence in this world.
To mingle or not mingle without discrimination as I see fit.
Not to keep the ethnicities separate within me either.
To have all the bad hair days that I want to have - or that my hair feels like having (it does have a life of its own, you know!)
Not to be responsible for people's discomfort with my physical ambiguity (for neither I nor is anyone else symmetrical: the illusion of symmetry is everywhere though!)
To identify with whatever creed I want - within reason (and I always have common sense ruling my decisions - worry not about that!)
Not to justify my ethnic legitimacy. I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To identify myself differently than strangers expect me to identify myself.
Not to use my real name if I don't feel like it; pennames in writ, borrowed identities for a night out - if no ill intent comes with them, it is okay!
To identify myself differently from how my parents identify me.
Not to identify myself as a pack of hereditary flaws and ticks!
To identify myself differently from my brothers and sisters.
Not to identify myself with any relatives at all!
To identify myself differently in different situations.
Not to divulge too much information - and not to be too much of a nice guy - for my own good! I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To create a vocabulary to communicate with about all the things I need to pass on to others now and then - and in so, being as multicultural as I want to be!
Not to shut myself in a corner in a cultural ghetto!
To change my identity over my lifetime -- and more than once too!
Not to be labeled, briefed, filed or debriefed. Or stamped!
(Sorry; I hate tattoos too!)
To have loyalties and identification with more than one group of people.
Not to play favorites - nepotism sucks eggs!
To freely choose whom I befriend and love.
Not to be told who is right for me, who isn't and who to marry!!!
I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To talk to my God - and to expect the impossible
For all is possible - to Him! I HAVE THE RIGHT...
Not to lose patience - though I do - because nothing is gained when even that intangible is lost... I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To pray, to eat, to drink, to breathe, to listen and to observe - as much as I feel as though I need to... In moderation, for anything in excess becomes one of the seven deadly sins! I HAVE THE RIGHT...
Not to blaspheme - if I want to take it out on somebody, I shall pick up a mirror and let MYSELF have it! Self-slapping is not recommended though - much less self-flagellation...
I HAVE THE RIGHT...
To love. Love is all. Love is Life. God Is Love. Love is God's Gift to me. Hence...
I Shall Love in a world of hatred. +++
With kudos to Helen of Perryopolis aka Irene aka Galadriel Lothlorien, for the friendly, truly luminous inspiration!
3. Thou shalt respect all weaknesses and shalt constitute thyself the defender of them. (In a society that idolizes the strong and ridicules the meek? Fat chance of that happening...!)
4. Thou shalt love the country in which thou wast born. (I can't do it myself - I don't expect anyone else to be able to!)
5. Thou shalt not recoil before thine enemy. (But... Cowardice is seen as wisdom today - fall back and live to fight another day! Right...)
6. Thou shalt make war against the infidel without cessation and without mercy. (Some muslims do that - the rest of us...? Depends also on our definition of what an "infidel" is... AND on one's code of ethics and set of morals...!) 7. Thou shalt perform scrupulously thy feudal duties, if they be not contrary to the laws of God. (Feudalism is dead. Long live capitalism - NOT!) 8. Thou shalt never lie, and shalt remain faithful to thy pledged word. (People don't pledge anymore - and they don't follow through with things either!)
9. Thou shalt be generous, and give largesse to everyone. (Épa, carralho... In this day and age of "me, myself and I" - in the era of individualism? Not likely to happen...)
10. Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good against injustice and evil. (Now, first of all, it is not given to everyone to have the gift of ubiquity - and one has to be able to tell the difference between what and who is Right and Good and what and who is Wrong and Evil before one can be a "champion"...! And THAT is REALLY not a given, to anyone, on these confusing days!)
- Leon Gautier, The Decalogue (with commentary by... me!)
IN CONCLUSION, HENCE... WHO EVER DOES ANY OF THESE THINGS NOWADAYS, LEON?!?
Oh, that's right - you're from another era, my man! And it shows...!
(Leon would be appalled by the likes of Mr. Brown...! You do know who Mr. Brown is... don't you? But that's another story!)
No, this is not "tool time" for politics - however many a man and woman "in charge" would do well to hear (or rather read) me out...
And then hire me as counsellor!
;)
How dare they lament my alleged "lack of hands-on experience" - when I have observed for so long now, I know their all of their tricks inside and out!
I know them better than they know themselves!
Vipers!
Ah, if I pulled the strings, behind the scenes... If I wielded the true power, yes - what wonders you would see, dear everyman and dearer everywoman out there!
;)
I tell you; Jesse Ventura has nothing on me (not even the body! Certainly not the mind - MUCH LESS the incandescent soul! Woooooooo! But I am digressing...)
And this Luminous Manifesto shall stand as the one and only of its kind - for it is not about dreaming nor is it about "Secrets Behind The Secret" either...! For HERE you obtain practical, factual, logical LUMINOUS ADVICE! The sort of advice that can reshape the world - and shape it up! Everything else... may be found here, also - but as a no-extra-charges bonus type of thing!
Be thankful for that! For all of it!
For the world needs such assistance at this point in time - it has reached a point from which there can be no return... And so HERE I COME TO THE RESCUE! ;)
Don't thank me all at the same time, now... please!
After all, I will not divulge ALL the answers here and now - this is but a tiny sample package of clues, leads, avenues to explore for the betterment of ALL: but, for the full answers, you will have to pay the FULL PRICE as well!
That can be discussed later - and in private!
;)
Aye, here are but a few elements from my LUMINOUS REFORM PLANS...
* RENTAL PROPRIETY REGULATIONS
No longer would just any schmoe off the street be able to acquire property without being duly and meticulously PREPARED to do so - I am sure that, due to my long list of pre-requirements, the schlocks seeking only to make a fast buck off anyone willing to pay any price just for the luxury of having a roof over their heads, would get discouraged and give it up!
This plan would create JOBS - those of trainers for this NEW BREED OF LANDLORD WITH A CONSCIENCE, A HEART AND EVEN A BRAIN - THE BREED OF THE FUTURE! And those of inspectors also, who'd check on the few graduates and the pre-program landlords, mostly, to make sure they are NOT misbehaving in accordance to my new set of very rigid rules...
For instance - they would each select a SPECIALTY - and not be able to rent to anybody outside that established customer-base. Mixing and matching only makes for TROUBLE - you cannot expect the elderly to live nextdoor to bums! You can rent to bums - but then, your entire building will be BUMS ONLY! Capisce?
And just so that everyone gets the same prices, the bums would not be found paying lower rent than the elderly or low-income families - even if they are in a dump! Bums deserve dumps - agreed? Cool.
* TRADITIONAL JOBS REFORM
I would also re-establish some ancient job definitions that have, quite erroneously, been thought of as too archaic and even obsolete in recent years...
The Apothecary sounds SO MUCH BETTER, for instance, than the "druggist" or even pharmacist... The former retains a dignified aura that the more modern terms simply have not; and, besides, whenever "drug" is a part of the name, the mental image of a street pusher comes to the fore... That tarnishing is beyond repair now.
Also on my list: every artisan profession you can think of! For there will be an accrued demand for "hand-made products" when the New Earth arises from the ashes of the old, polluted, dilapidated one...
Last but definitely not least, an elite corps of new municipal workers would be established to further help cleanse the community - yes, you've guessed it, I proclaim the return in full force of the WITCHFINDER GENERAL position - along with his three, four or five deputees (up to a maximum of seven! A nod at my old Luminous Equation, aye; "Three Musketeers + Four Horsemen = Luminous Magnificent Seven!)
* WHATEVER AREA OR FACET OF LIFE IT IS - NO MORE JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER!
Ah, but the problem with this one is that most folks who preach for this STILL DO IT! Everyone, even I, is a prisoner to his senses and chief among those are the eyesight, to make a quick overview-type of evaluation, and the sense of hearing also, for the very same reasons... We are too quick to evaluate someone based upon the way he or she looks and sounds - whether a prospective employee or a prospective "mate"! We classify as "good" what is not, and vice-versa! So, I propose a radical change in proceedings here, one that will take much effort and call for the utmost DISCIPLINE just in order to "stick to it"...!
We have to evaluate through a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH THOROUGH AND RIGOROUS set of criteria; and this in a manner devoid of any prejudice, discrimination of any kind and favoritism/nepotism also, of course.
If we can achieve that, my son(s) (and daughters!) we will have become A MAN! Or a woman. Make that AN ENLIGHTENED SOUL - there!
I am not holding my breath for most of you peeps out there, though!
Oh no I'm not!
